Tania, you are wonderful and I would LOVE to be part of your network, but I am not precisely a writer….

Worse still, I’m not sure that I even know how to define WHAT I am! I write a bit, and lecture a lot, with lots and lots of images, because I do believe we are all visual thinkers.

But I can see exactly how wonderful a group like the one you have been dreaming up might be just what we need for the work I do… which is trying to help people through towards climate resilience in the built environment, by learning from the past and from real science (NOT technology). Oh, dear, what a pathetic elevator pitch!

The thing is, although pretty much everyone loves the messages, it is almost entirely the women who really and truly ‘get’ it. The default for most men, bless them, is overlook the simple and rush straight towards complicated technology (and the invention of new saleable gadgets). I explain why the pre-industrial way of stopping people feeling too cold in their buildings in winter was simply to hang cloth on the walls, and why that works so well; and the men say, « Oh, that’s amazing! We could make electrically heated wall drapes! ». Whereas the women dash home to try it out with an old sheet.

So, if what you are looking for is a group of enthusiastic women keen to listen and work together and think laterally together to try to build a positive picture of future worlds, definitely count me in! But I won’t be hurt if it’s the writers you have in mind: I’ll just keep admiring you from afar…

… and of course sending love and prayers to the Red Mare and Sidney and you…
